The 386 microcode sequencer has a one-cycle pipeline delay: when a jump or RNI (run next instruction) is decoded, the micro-instruction immediately after it has already been fetched and will execute before the jump takes effect. This "delay slot" is a basic property of the sequencer, and the microcode is written to fill it with useful work rather than waste a cycle on a bubble. The examples in the PTSAV section above show this: at 582/5AE, the micro-instruction after LCALL executes before the subroutine begins.
We provided Google with concrete examples from their own infrastructure to demonstrate the issue. One of the keys we tested was embedded in the page source of a Google product's public-facing website. By checking the Internet Archive, we confirmed this key had been publicly deployed since at least February 2023, well before the Gemini API existed. There was no client-side logic on the page attempting to access any Gen AI endpoints. It was used solely as a public project identifier, which is standard for Google services.

Sophia, an Nvidia partner, has designed modular server racks with integrated solar panels it calls TILES, which are 1 meter by 1 meter in area and a few centimeters in depth. By adopting this thin form factor, DeMillo says that processors can sit against a passive heat spreader, eliminating the need for active cooling. He expects 92% of the power it generates will go to processing, a significant gain on traditional designs. This design requires, however, a sophisticated software management system to balance activity across the processors.
